Tricare Allows Military Dependents and Retirees to Get Psychiatric Medication Management Without a Doctor’s Referral
Military life can have some unique challenges. These challenges can result in a great deal of stress and worry, taking a toll on you in the process. Service members and their families face multiple stressors, including deployment-related stress, difficulty adjusting, relational stress, the list can go on. Coupled with the pressure of deployment, service members experience the toll of separation from loved ones. Meanwhile, those closest to them are often left waiting, worrying, and possibly even grieving. All of this can be overwhelming. These challenges can be even more overwhelming when mental health symptoms are present, psychiatric medication management can help.
Services That Are Available
The Department of Defense (DoD) has taken steps to provide service members and their families access to a continuum of counseling support through TRICARE. TRICARE is a health care program that provides health benefits for US military personnel, retirees, dependents, and some members of the Reserves. Beneficiaries are entitled to a host of professional services to support mental health from a range of TRICARE-authorized mental health providers across the globe.
Although mental health services are offered by the TRICARE Military facilities worldwide, many wish to receive care elsewhere. TRICARE allows beneficiaries to seek help from its network from civilian psychiatric professionals who understand your unique needs and can help you achieve emotional well-being.
The option to seek outside medication management allows Military dependents, Retirees and their families to get help from their preferred prescriber without a doctor’s referral. (*Active Duty Service Members MUST get a referral from their PCM to utilize off post psychiatric medication management).
Finding a prescriber who accepts TRICARE (an IN NETWORK Provider) and also understands the unique challenges you face is important. As a dependent or retiree, you are able to receive psychiatric medication management without getting a doctor’s referral.
